This history has been written using the diaries, letters, photographs and personal reminiscences of 488 Squadron, who were based just outside Singapore City and valiantly kept planes in the air against Japanese attacks until just before the city was overwhelmed.

Graham Clayton is the son of Bert Clayton, one of the servicemen in 488 Squadron. Bert did not like to talk about his experiences in Singapore and has only recently, and at the instigation of his son, got back in touch with some of his fellow servicemen. Graham worked to pull all their memories together into this significant and personal history.
